Learning to read hijaiyah letters is the fundamental basis of Islamic education, which strongly influences the religious and spiritual development of children. Early childhood is considered the golden age, in which the ability to absorb knowledge is highly optimal. However, many children in rural areas, including those in Cipinang Village, Beber Subdistrict, still struggle to recognize and read hijaiyah letters. Several factors contribute to this problem, such as the limited number of qualified teachers, the lack of creative teaching methods, and the low involvement of parents in guiding their children’s learning at The Community Service Program (KKN) of the Faculty of Islamic Studies was implemented as a solution by organizing hijaiyah learning sessions for early childhood. The methods applied included the Iqra’ and Tilawati approaches, classical and individual learning models, as well as integrating educational games. Data were collected through observation, interviews with parents, and documentation. The results showed significant
improvement in children’s ability: from recognizing letters, differentiating similar shapes, reading simple combinations, up to independently reading short words Moreover, the program enhanced children’s learning motivation and increased parental engagement. The presence of KKN students also strengthened social bonds with the local community, creating strong collaboration among non-formal educational institutions, families, and university students. Thus, the hijaiyah learning program through KKN is proven to be effective in optimizing children’s reading skills and strengthening the foundation of Islamic education in the village.
